How to Use Market Index Data in Advocate

Edited

The Market Intelligence section of Advocate gives you direct visibility into how risk-based pricing (Rate on Line, or RoL) is trending across different segments of the insurance market. This feature is designed to help users benchmark pricing, monitor volatility, and make smarter placement and negotiation decisions.

๐Ÿ” What Is Market Index Data?

Advocate aggregates pricing and exposure data from its national book to construct proprietary market indices. Each index represents a unique slice of the market based on:

  • Coverage type (Package, Property, Liability)

  • Geography (e.g., National, Florida, Texas, Urban Cities)

  • Value tier (e.g., Moderate Value, High-Value)

These indices help illustrate how market pricing is shifting over time across different subsegments.

๐Ÿ“Š Navigating the Market Index Page

On the Market Indices tab, youโ€™ll see a set of interactive line charts, one for each supported index. Hereโ€™s how to use them:

Key Metrics Displayed:

  • Price ($): 30-day rolling median RoL for the index.

  • Price Change (%): Daily percentage change in the rolling median RoL.

  • Annual Traded Exposure: Total coverage limits across active policies that fall within that index's criteria.

You can hover over any data point in the chart to view the exact value for that day.

Use the visual tools to:

  • Compare indices over time to see how pricing shifts by location, value, or coverage type.

  • Spot volatility: sudden increases in RoL may indicate tightening market conditions.

  • Assess risk appetite: understand where carriers are pricing more aggressively.
